Reinstate project that automatically expired after months of delay

I have a project that is 90% completed and paid only 45%.  Due to an automatic refund setting, the contract terminated just as we were about to complete the work.  (The gating item problem was solved.)  How do I reinstate the contract?  I see no means to do this and there seems to be nothing to be done but go through the process of new contract creation with new escrow and so on.  The work has been great but Upwork seems to be the problem not the solution.
