How to find a common language?

What advice can you give to people who have difficulty communicating with those who have different opinions or beliefs? How can you find a common language and find compromises?

Strangely enough, a common language and compromise among those with different opinions/beliefs are best established through communication. The only way to find common ground is to listen intently and respectfully to the opinions/beliefs of those who disagree with you, and to communicate your own opinions/beliefs as they listen to you. Only then can both parties respect and accept their differences.

But this only works when things like compassion and respect are weaved into the mixture. If either party has animosity, intolerance, or predispositions about the other, then it's best to avoid discussing those differing opinions/beliefs or move on from each other.
