Yes, in freelancing you have to pay for everything. If you have to buy connects, it's only $15.00. I realize that may be a huge amount for some people, but this is a U.S. based platform, using U.S. dollars. If you can't or won't invest a mere $15.00, you will not succeed in freelancing. No matter where you go, or how you work, you have to pay for every single cost. Freelancing in the physical world is no different. Freelancing means you must have marketable skills, money to run the business, time, patience, motivation, and again, marketable skills.
I searched for your profile, but it isn't anywhere I can find, and I didn't search through the forum. For some reason, sometimes, if you search for someone through the forum, it will indicate the profile is private, or even not there. So, you have never purchased connects in two years? If you do not activate your profile, how do you expect to get clients? Why would a client consider hiring you with no profile?
If you want to freelance, and you are prepared to be self-employed, please use the link to the Academy at the top of the page. You need to learn how to use the platform and learn about vetting the client and the job. The connects you receive at the beginning are intended to help you out, not give you jobs. Freelancers are responsible for everything, every decision, and every action you take.

Please be aware that there are three ways to get Connects on Upwork. Unfortunately, transferring Connects from one freelancer to another is not an option. You'll have your Monthly Free Connects; you can also Buy Connects and Earn them.

Hi Prajakta,
You will receive your free connects on the first day of your billing cycle. Please go to "Settings" and select "Membership and Connects" under User Settings to find your billing cycle. You will receive 10 free connects each month on that day. Please see the attached screenshot -

Please be aware that your free Connects will be prorated once you upgrade your account from Basic to Plus. This means that we'll allocate them based on time, specifically on how many days have already passed during your billing cycle. By prorating free Connects, we can ensure that you always get a fair amount, no matter when you make changes to your plan.

I am sorry to hear that you're having difficulty getting your Connects back after the jobs has been closed or canceled without hiring.
I would like to inform you that the Connects are returned when the job is closed by the client without hiring or it is closed by Upwork for TOS violation. This is not applicable to expired jobs.
I checked the last few proposals and can confirm that these proposals were archived because the job expired due to inactivity from the client. Feel free to message us if you need further assistance.

I applied to two jobs, While I was checking the update discovered that the client didn't hire any freelancer, His last seen the job 2 months ago, Now the jobs is closed and archived but I didn't get my connects back. Is this normal?

I checked and see that your current billing cycle is May 16, 2024 — Jun 15, 2024. This means that your cycle is renewed on the 16th of every month and that's when you receive your free monthly Connects. You may visit this help article to learn more.
