I created a new account because I couldn't recall the password for an old account account that I created a while back. But when I tried putting my phone number into the new account, its saying that the phone number is taken. I want to keep my new account and delete the older one so I can use my phone number again in the new accont. Thanks in advance for your help and support.

Palak, you can't do that.
Creating multiple accounts is a serious violation of Upwork TOS.
This can lead to being kicked off the platform permanently.
You need to work with Upwork Customer Support to close the new account and resume using your original account.
