Does setting your availability have an impact on upworks search or any other algorithm?

I noticed a spike in my profile views when I set my profile to available and since then I have got a few clients. After I have gotten clients my profile views have dropped drastically.

Can setting availability have any impact upwork profile visibility or is it just a coincidence?

yes of course, if you will set it to "unavailable" Upwork won't show you to prospective clients as you are not free.
