I think that Upwork should make clients put the name of the company (if it is one) on their account so that we can do our due diligence. I almost got scammed today.

Clients would be harassed outside Upwork  even if communicating outside Upwork before a contract is not allowed. Following the Terms of Service and understanding how things work on the platform is the best protection.
