Zero hiring rate for almost a year. I did everything. I received invites from direct clients, but it seems like all doors are closed. Inviting has become like a gambling section on Upwork. They are inviting so many freelancers for a single job. The simple fact is that there is no work anymore. It is just a waste of time and effort.

Yep. But 2 years more.
After management chaged jobs here look like this:
This "client" posted job and never returned. And will never close it.
Only such trash or spam\scam. No real jobs at all.
Sometime i think that upwork use abandoned\generated accounts to simulate dummy activity and collect money from FLs. But lets calculate:
Option 1. Client hired me and get job done within 10-20 minutes from posting, happy, will back again. Upwork profit from 5 applied + fee from job = $30
Option 2. Job is fake or upwork deleted my (and others who able to do it) proposal. Upwork profit from 500 applied (with boost) $20x500 = $10000 more.
Now very hard choice: get $30 where alive client reqired vs $10K where no real client needed, no real job needed, just take money and enjoy.

Bad but not that bad really.
Otherwise, why are we still here?

Well Isabel? Upwork is broken - there is less work thats true, but also upwork is moved to earning on freelancers not on clients - ergo they expect you will pay for everything and do not give you even possibility to anwser invites for free nowdays. I treat it as a passive channel - sometimes will get something - sometimes not. But honestly 2022 - 100%, 2023 - 50%, 2024 - it's 10% of what it was before. They probably onboarded tone of cheap freelancers that are competing with price - and I no longer compete with price. 🙂 So clients are expecting cheap - instead of good quality to price ratio - plus there is less clients - plus you have to pay to even have possibility to work with them (before - when system was - first reply to invite - top on the client list - was much more just - now just cheap agencies are boosting replyies deliver bad service but as clients do not know the difference - they stay with them....) It's broken game by design here. I mean only person who is winning is Upwork owner (in casino only casino wins). 😞
