Edit: Thank you for the answer. Unfortunately, this was my very first experience with setting up a job on this platform and I wasn't aware going off the platform was against TOS in the first place, though it's quite obvious now. Well, it's on me of course, lesson learned; thanks again for your response.

Reviewing Upwork's ToS, and not going off platform to communicate before you have a contract in place would be really good starts to keep you safe, and so you don't waste your time with BS like this.
