Suspicious Clients Without Contract Offers and Lying

Hi! I am new to UpWork and would like to report a client who did not send me a contract offer but asked me for a 10-second-video on a location with a nice background for his "approval." He first stated that we may blur our faces in the videos but later on asked for the unblurred/unedited ones. I am worried that my face/videos will be used for something harmful and negative on the internet such as explicit visual content, pornography, and the like. I sent him two videos from one location with a nice background and he mentioned in our chat that he approved of it (see screenshots below) and requested for the videos without my face blurred. After I sent the unblurred videos, he did not reply. I followed up on the contract offer and the payment, then he suddenly claimed that the videos were not approved by him yet and that he would like me to film in a different location.

When he started acting suspicious, I realized the contract offer matters. Unfortunately, this is my first ever project on the platform and I was still trying to navigate my way through everything. At the moment, I've deleted the messages I sent which included the videos in fear for my safety, especially given the advancement of AI and other technologies. I have also flagged the job listing as inappropriate. However, I'm worried about what he might do with the videos he already has of me. I also blocked him on UpWork. I am hoping a moderator or authority from UpWork can see my post on the forum and assist me with this matter. I am also hoping other freelancers will not be tricked and instead guided in their journey.

Attached below are the screenshots of our conversation for verification. I hope I can get assistance from anyone of authority in UpWork the soonest possible:

Thank you, everyone. I would appreciate any help and assistance to report this client and assist other freelancers he might have interacted with for this project.

You can use the help article here to flag the client who asked for free work here Report suspicious user activity – Upwork Customer Service & Support | Upwork Help

However, you can not flag him because he did not send you an offer. One basic rule is to never start working before being hired.

To avoid bad situations, make sure to review the Terms of Service at the bottom of this page and the Academy ressources at the top of this page.

Sorry about what you've just experienced as a newbie on the platform, but just like Sophie said, never ever start working without a contract offer. You just need to report him to Upwork Support and they'll take it from there. All the best in your Freelancing journey.
