Some clients don't know that you're not allowed to exchange contact information before you're hired, so just tell them that you need to use the Upwork call feature instead. But just because a client has a verified payment method doesn't mean that they're NOT a scammer. Whether something is a scam or not depends on what they're asking you to do. What is the job and how much does it pay? The easiest way to recognise a scam is that it's an easy job that pays really well - too good to be true, in other words.
