A client has direct messaged me, expressing interest in hiring me for a project. We've already had a video call to discuss the project, and we agreed that I would complete a demo task. However, before proceeding with the test job, I brought up the idea of having a contract in place first. Additionally, I inquired about the project budget, as it is milestone-based. However, I haven't received a response from the client regarding these inquiries. They are only asking for an update on the demo task. I'm feeling confused because their profile shows that they have a verified payment method, six reviews with five stars each, and a 100% job completion rate. Should I proceed with the demo task without a contract or still initiate a contract before starting?Thank you for your thoughts!

Contract is a must. It may be small amount if you agree for that. But any work must be paid.
Client can see demo from your portfolio, it is enough.
