That question is very common. In my case, I make my profile picture look easy to work with and provide a clear profile description as to what service I can offer.  Also, take a look at the top rated profiles and get some idea!

In terms of writing a winning a proposal, The secret is to make it simple, understandable and really make sense on the requirements.  Your first sentence should capture client's attention. Stating previous work (e.g links or sample source codes) also helps to convice them that you are the right fit to the position.

Lastly, you need to be creative. Make your proposal unique! Surely there are lots of applicants out there just like you.
