How to Request Edit access in Google Drive folder

Good day! My employer gave me a shared link on his google drive folder but I cannot edit it to make a new folder because I do not have permission to edit. I did send him a message to give me permission and he replied that I should send a request and he will approve the folder. How to send a request for permission to edit?
