It's a scam that has been going on for quite a while here. Many have lost a lot more money trying to recover the "intial amount" promised to them.
Go through the numerous data entry and audio recording scam complaints on the forum. You'll likely find this so-called client in the scammer list. They keep changing names, websites to fool new freelancers.
Stay away from anyone who contacts you via Telegram, email or WhatsApp. They are scammers after your money.
You're supposed to keep all conversations before contract, and preferably during contract , and any payments from said contract on Upwork.
