Freelancer ended the contract early

I started a contact with a freelancer with 3 milestones (first one is due next month), two days later I saw in the chat between me and the freelancer a message saying "Contract ended".
I didn't end the contract and I don't know why I see this message. After contacting the freelancer he says maybe his son ended it by mistake and he asked me to rehire him, the problem is that I already paid 20$ (for the first milestone) and I didn't get any refund yet, also my balance is 0.00$

After contacting support, I found that I have funds (the same amount that I paid) in my escrow here: https://www.upwork.com/nx/payments/reports/transaction-history
and when I rehire the freelancer, it won't charge me again, it will take the balance from the escrow funds.

You will be refunded if freelancer ended contract. But it is will take some time.

Where can I see that I'll be refunded? and how can I know for sure that the freelancer is the one who ended the contract? it's very weired that these information isn't shown in the details of the "Contract ended" message
