how to cancel a contract without giving negative feedback

How to I cancel a contract without giving any feeback? The freelancer I hired for a simple photo retouching job started going all wierd on me saying he'd been deceived before on previous projects. I'm not sure where that came from, it was a simple project. 

I though freelancers were protected on Upwork? I've used Upwork for hire freelncers for quite a few years and generally it's been okay. I've got a few go to freelancer who I've hired several times.

I want to cancel the project without givng any feedback. I can't recommend him nor do I want to leave negative comments and affect his ability to earn money.

The best option is to ask the freelancer to end the contract, then you don't have to leave any feedback at all.
