Activity on this job shows 'hired – 1'.

I want to apply for a job, and I see, under 'Activity on This Job', it shows 'hired – 1'. It also shows 'Interviewing – 4'. See the screenshot attached.

So if the Client has hired, why is the job still available, and still interviewing? The job as says 'a very skilled person', so this seems to mean only one person will be employed.

So I'm confused. Should I apply?

Hi Charles,

Thank you for reaching out. In general, a job post will remain open unless the client closes it. They also have the option to hire multiple freelancers on one job. They may also choose to keep it open in case it doesn't work with the freelancer that they hired so they can still hire a replacement by repurposing the same job post. Please note that we are not privy to why clients keep their jobs open and it will be part of the freelancers' journey to vet their clients.

Hi Annie Jane B,

Thank you for your reply but the Upwork policy of allowing clients to just keep their listing posted, even after they have hired, seems quite inappropriate.  It makes it very laborious and time consuming for freelancers to look through jobs.

There are MANY posts that I look at that show a hire.  This policy, it seems, only benefits Upwork by needlessly multiplying the number of job postings.

There is an EASY solution.  When the client is creating their post, a question they answer is how many hires?  If they say 1, and they make 1 hire, the posting automatically closes.  If they need 2. . . same thing.  If the hired freelancer doesn't work out, they can go back to the other received proposals OR re-post the job.

As it is now, the policy places a great burden on freelancers.  And for those who may not know to look and see if a hire has been made, or forget to do so, such freelancers submit proposals and use up their connects (and waste his/her time).   Again, I can only see that this benefits Upwork.

Thank you for reading this, and if possible, taking my suggestion to the appropriate people.

As sometime the clients are hiring different freelancers for the specific jobs. So thats why the jobs still remain available. When the process of the hiring get completed so the job auto get closed. or the client close for further response.

Hello AJ,

Today, I saw a post that was only 16 minutes old when I clicked on it. The client has one job posted, 0% hire rate, but the activity on the job showed Hire: 1. This doesn't make any sense to me since there are no other jobs posted and the job post was so new. Even if the client sent a contract directly to a freelancer that they searched for, once the contract was accepted by the freelancer, the information under "About the client" should have updated to show they have more than a 0% hire rate. Anyway, the client just joined today and this was their first job post. Can you please help me understand this? Is it a bug in the system?

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Hi all,

New here and wondering the same as Raphel above. Why hasn't anyone answered this since Jan guys? Someone shed some light here please for the sake of the newer freelancers learning the ropes.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Aaren,
