Chargeback

Upwork wants me to pay a chargeback requested by a scammer (client) even though the amount was always in my pending section; I had not received the amount on my available funds, but Upwork wants me to pay. I emailed Upwork and sent proof, but nothing happened.

I think this is one of the rare cases where you can do nothing.

If you never received funds from Upwork for this job, the money for the chargeback will come out of whatever is in escrow or pending. If Upwork is insisting otherwise, please come back and let us know.

I am currently in a similar situation.
Even now, upwork has limited my access to withdrawing my available funds while I am surviving with my work on upwork.

If you never withdrew the funds, it will balance out to $0 and you don't need to pay anything out of pocket. If you withdrew, your account will go into the red and you will have to pay off the debt until you are running in the black again.
