Does Upwork sponsor war in Ukraine?

Hey folks,

Back in April Upwork threw Russian freelancers into a challenging dilemma: to relocate or to be banned, because freelancer pay taxes to Russian government, who started war in Ukraine. And now after relocation to Georgia Upwork keeps charging me VAT to pay it to Russian government? Or stealing money from my account? Either way that's ridiculous! I'm really curious where the VAT Upwrok charged to be paid to.
