Off Upwork requests

Hi,

I just got my first job offer. However, they dont want to go through upwork, but work through telegram. They are offering a copywriting project and asked me to do a deposit before I start. This deposit I will receive back when I finish the job within the timeframe. Has this happened to anyone before?

It's an obvious scam for 2 reasons:

1. It's via telegram
2. They want YOU to pay THEM for YOUR work...

Yes its happened to lots of new freelancers. you are not allowed to go off platform, clients know this and doing so could get you suspended and is likely a scam anyway.

Why on earth would any reasonable client expect you to pay before you start work (or after for that matter) this is 100% a scam. read the post pinned to the top of this forum and everything it links to before you try getting another client. You need to know how to use the platform properly before you begin or you will likely end up scammed again.

It's extremely difficult to get work here. In general, if you see a job that's easy and pays well, it's a scam.
