Why was I charged 5% WHT if I had already provided PAN?

I have already uploaded my PAN card, but still I was charged 5% WHT. I want refund of the same.

Hello, Nadeem. WHT is a standard charge Upwork takes on milestone service fees. If you want a complete tax exemption, you have to provide a GST registration certificate, although I am not sure if that exempts you from WHT.

Hi Adil. Without providing PAN the tax is 5% and by providing PAN details the tax is 1%. But I was charged 5% even though I have already provided PAN details.

Hi Nadeem. I can confirm the same happened to me. Despite linking my PAN with my Aadhar card within the given deadline as per Indian government's deadline, I was charged 5% WHT instead of 1% on my latest earnings (yesterday).

I have separately raised a ticket with support seeking refund and making necessary updates on my profile just in case. Suggest you do the same.

Although it would be great if a Moderator clarifies it here.
