Naeem,

Your profile overview/summary is quite long and most clients will not read it all. Make sure your most important content is at the top of your summary.

Your portfolio, skills, project catalog, consultations, certifications and employment history look good.

Hi Esther,

The messages you type cannot be edited by other freelancers. However, reply messages can be appended.

I looked through your profile and you still need to complete it before clients will be interested in hiring you. Your overview/summary has to tell clients which data entry/transcription services you provide, and how those services will meet the client's needs.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. At a minimum, you should go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths to complete your profile:

Hello Natasa,

I reviewed your profile and there are a few things I think you should work on that might help improve it.

Title: I recommend capitalizing the first letter of each word in your title. Also, I suggest spelling the word "virtual assistance" rather than the acronym, "VA." For example: Virtual Assistance | Graphic Prepress, CMS, Photo Retouching, UI Design

Overview/Summary: Your summary provides a lot of background information, but you never really tell potential clients how you can help them. Clients expect to read about your skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will meet their needs or solve their problems.

Since you are focusing on graphic design, you should tell clients about those services early in your summary. The first two sentences of your summary are important because the client sees them when searching for freelancers. You want to make an impression in the first two sentences so the client is convinced to click and read your entire profile.

To do this, you can revise the content in your summary to make it sound more client-focused. For example, you can rewrite the first three or four paragraphs to be more assertive:

I am an expert Virtual Assistant and business owner specializing in graphic design services, content writing, office administration, and web administration. I can help with prepress services for books and other material; retouch photos; write web content; and manage CMS administration. I have also studied UX/UI design and can build landing pages and highly effective user interactions.

By profession, I am a graduate engineer in graphic technology and design, and I have worked as a graphic designer and web administrator. This experience which allows me to provide comprehensive virtual assistance services focused specifically on meeting your graphic design support needs.

Due to my extensive experience as a back office administrator for a marketing agency, I can also help you with administrative, marketing, and sales support, but also in other business support activities as I have spent 7 years as an entrepreneur in the hospitality industry.

In my 20+ years of work, I had a very diverse career that brought me knowledge from different fields. I can help you achieve your goals by applying this experience to support your projects.

(Here, instead of "My TOP 5 favorite jobs:", say "Services I can provide:")

Services I can provide:

1. Prepress of books, monographs, and encyclopedias....(everything after this is fine).

(However, I would remove the last two lines: "In addition to Latin letters, I also know Cyrillic very well. The level of knowledge of the English language is B2." since this does not provide much value to potential clients.)

Employment History: You have a lot of graphic design and other relevant experience in your employment history. You should add job descriptions that contain more substance. This will help clients better understand your qualifications for each job in your employment history.

After you make these updates, start applying for jobs that match your qualifications and skills by writing great cover letters. In your cover letters, always make sure you create a custom response based on the client's job. Focus on the client's specific points in their job description; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their requirements.

Good luck!

Hello Upwork Community, I would really appreciate it if you could review my profile and provide some feedback. Despite sending proposals, I haven't received any offers or jobs.

Thank you

Hello Hassan,

Receiving invites and job offers from clients is a challenge these days. Many freelancers have noticed this over the past 6 months. The good thing is, your profile looks good, so potential clients have the information they need to hire you.

I have only one small suggestion regarding your overview/summary. I focus on the beginning of your summary because clients will see the first two sentences when they search for freelancers. You want those first two lines to speak directly to clients so that, hopefully, they are convinced to click and read your profile.

You can also remove nonessential text to keep your summary concise and engaging for clients. To make the first two sentences more impactful, and to eliminate excessive text, I suggest revising it to something like:

Highly experienced Full Stack Web & Mobile App Developer with 10+ years of professional software creation expertise. I can develop robust and innovative web and mobile applications that help you automate repetitive tasks, increase productivity, facilitate internal collaboration, or improve business processes.

My skill set includes:

◉ Proficient in React.js/React Native, Flutter, and Angular for seamless cross-platform development.
◉ Expertise in .NET Core, .NET web APIs, Node.js, and MS SQL for powerful backend development.
◉ Skilled in Figma UI/UX design to ensure visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces.
◉ Proficient in WordPress, Elementor, and Divi for efficient content management and website customization.

If you are seeking a mobile and web app development expert, get in touch with me and let's talk about how I can help. Together, we can create outstanding solutions tailored to your specific needs and requirements.

Employment History: Add a short job description for the senior software engineer job in your employment history--especially since it is related to your services here on Upwork.

After the make these minor updates, keep applying to jobs by writing great cover letters. Always create a custom cover letter based on the client's specific job requirements. Focus on the client's needs and requirements; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their needs.

Good luck!

Sveltana,

I think the most critical thing is to figure out how clients can find you. "Adobe after effects specialist" for example. Should that be "Adobe specialist." Or should that be "Special Effects Expert."  ?????

Mostly, I thought your portfolio was the most charming effects work I've ever seen. What a terrific skilll to have.  Each of those samples were fun, effective, charming.

I also think you might explain what you do a bit more in your write-up. I didn't know what "Adbobe after effects specialist" meant. I then read your write-up and I still wasn't very clear. It wasn't until I saw your portfolio did I understand what you do.

I think you have to have people understand you are an expert and also understand what it is you do and how you do it. People might not know many things. Do you do the entire film yourself? Do you take existing films add effects onto that? Do the effects include audio and visuals?

I think you have to explain very clearly what it is you do. Also, my concern with getting your job title right is partly about people using keywords to find you. Is "Adobe after effects specialist" the actual keywords that work best?

I don't know. I'm just bringing these up to get you to think it through. I think your work is charming ... I wish you the best.

Can anyone experienced freelancer check my profile and give me feedback because   i am new on upwork

Clark's avatar
Clark S Community Member

Hi Fahad,

Your profile looks good, but I want to focus on the beginning of your summary. I have two suggestions:

1) Remove "Hello I am Fahad Umar". I suggest this because the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. You only want meaningful words with value in those first two lines; you don't want to waste space with a greeting and your name. Clients can see your name on your profile.

2) Make a small revision to the first sentence to show more capability. Your first paragraph speaks to the client, but the first sentence could make an even bigger impact this way:

"I am a Shopify expert with over 4 years of experience in designing and developing highly effective online stores. I specialize in creating beautiful and functional online stores that will help you showcase your brand and sell your products effectively. Whether you're starting from scratch or looking to revamp your existing store."

The first two sentences of your summary are important because the client sees them when searching for freelancers. You want those first two lines to be impactful, and hopefully the client is convinced to click and read your profile.

Everything else in your profile looks good.

Muhammad,

Good job. I would write more and use the lists less ... but your short write-up is pretty good as it is.

Hi Andrea G and friends.

I am new to Upwork and tried to create a healthy profile for good services/earnings.

As you are experienced freelancers, your directions will help me improve my strategies.

Thankyou

Nauman,

I don't think people really read lists. Can you write a narrative explaining why you are good at what you do?

Mind you, I may be wrong. Maybe lists work. Maybe you are on to something.

Sadykov,

I would recommend you write a little narrative about your work. Let your personality show through a little. People like to hire people that they like. Be friendly and confident. Tell them about past successes in your field.

Look around Upwork for other profiles that might inspire you to add more to your profile. This isn't easy. You'll need to put a lot more effort into writing something that convinces absoute strangers to trust you.
