Akshat,

Good start to your profile.

Your profile overview/summary is informative and your skill categories look good. You should add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your AI skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

Hi all. My profile dropped for 4-5 months. I want to raise it. I've changed my profile description a little. Check, please.

Vladyslav,

Many freelancers have seen declines over the past several months to one year.

Your profile overview/summary has good information, but you use a lot of emojis at the start of your summary. When clients search for freelancers, only the first two sentences (approximately 215-250 characters) are shown. This means you have very little space to get their attention, and you want clients to see important words--not emojis.

Other than that, your profile is fine. Competition is much higher these days and many freelancers are boosting their profiles, so it can be difficult to attention or invitations.

Hi! I've been on the platform probably two weeks at most. I am having some trouble with hearing back from projects I have proposed to. Could someone help with my profile? One thing that is on my mind is my title. I'm not sure if it is my best fit. I welcome any feedback (not just my title) you have with my profile. Thank you so much!!

Hi Caitlin,

Welcome to Upwork.

Competition is high; even in the field of scientific research. However, your niche is not as crowded as others, so hopefully you will get attention from clients soon. Plus, not hearing back from clients after submitting proposals may not be directly related to your profile. More than likely, it's related to the large volume of freelancers here (competition); clients being highly selective; and the effectiveness of your proposals.

Your profile is well-written, so I'm certain your proposal cover letters are also appealing. But clients often receive 50+ proposals, and they rarely review all of them.

I agree about your title. When I first look at it, I have no idea what your profession is, and I don't know until I read the first sentence of your overview/summary. You do a good job of including skill categories in your title (i.e., process improvement, research methods, etc.) I recommend a title that retains skill categories, but includes a more descriptive first word. Instead of "implementation," probably: Research Scientist | Implementation | Research Methods/Writing | Process Improvement

I think the rest of your profile looks and sounds great, and your qualifications are great. Hopefully you get that first job soon.

Good luck!

Marstel,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results. You must include specific examples of how you can get results.

As a civil engineer, tell clients exactly what types of projects you can help with (e.g., "I help construction companies and engineering firms manage a wide array of structure and infrastructure development projects including buildings, roads, tunnels, bridges, stadiums, arenas, and many more.")

Also, some forms of graphic design are related to civil engineering (i.e., architectural design, 2D/3D rendering, CAD, etc.) and you should mention these if they are part of your graphic design experience. However, other graphic design (i.e., flyers, brochures, banners, marketing material) are not related. You may want to create a Specialized Profile that focuses on any services unrelated to your civil engineering work. This will allow you to focus your main profile on civil engineering services only.

Add civil engineering examples to your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression and potential clients will expect to see several samples from a civil engineer. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Pratik,

You have good information in your profile. I suggest revising the first part of your overview/summary. When clients search for freelancers, only the first two sentences of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you want clients to see their goals (your services and how you can help them) in the first two sentences.

This is what clients need to see:

"I will remove background noise and unwanted parts, apply noise reduction and equalization and voice leveling to make audio professional."

Clients can see the following, but it does not need to be first:

"I am a very dedicated, responsible, precise, detail-oriented and active worker. I am a person with positive attitude."

Here is a example:

I am a dedicated, precise, and detail-oriented Audio Editor and podcast producer. I can remove background noise and unwanted parts, apply noise reduction and equalization, and voice leveling to make your audio sound more professional.

Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

The other areas of your profile look good.

Syed Bilawal,

Here are a few suggestions for your profile:

Title: Capitalize the first letter of each word in your title; this will help it stand out: Off-Page SEO Expert | Guest Post Outreach Expert | Wordpress Developer

Overview/Summary: Remove the first sentence in your summary: "Welcome to my Upwork profile!" Why? Because when clients search for freelancers, only the first two sentences of your summary are shown. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you want clients to see your services in the first two sentences--not a greeting.

Also, add spacing between paragraphs to make your summary easier to read:

Are you looking to boost your online presence and take your business to the next level? Look no further! With over four years of experience, I specialize in off page SEO, guest post outreach, and WordPress development.

As an off-page SEO expert, I use algorithms to rank your website higher on search engines. I also write compelling stories that appeal to both search engines and users. As a WordPress developer, I can keep your website's functionality and technical aspects up-to-date. I specialize in pixel-perfect WordPress website design and development that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Custom themes and seamless plugin integrations help me bring your vision to life. I am also well-versed in WordPress development, CSS, and JavaScript.

My goal is to provide cost-effective, timely services without sacrificing quality. Your complete satisfaction is my top priority. So, if you want to streamline your processes and achieve exceptional results, please do not hesitate to contact me today. I'll ensure the best value for your investment and tailor my services to your specific needs.

Portfolio: Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Njabulo,

The information in your profile sounds fine, but you need to update this: "With [X] years of hands-on experience"

How many years?

Also, I recommend removing the emojis because they occupy valuable space.

Finally, add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Muhammad Dilshad,

It can take some time before a freelancer wins his first job on Upwork. Many freelancers send 20, 30 or more proposals before getting jobs. There are so many freelancers here, so competition for jobs is high.

Having a work history and great job success score is important, but having marketable skills and a good profile can help you win jobs.

Here are a few things I see in your profile:

1) In your title, I believe "handing" should be "handling." Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Shopify A-to-Z Account Handling Flat File A+ FBA

2) There is good information in your overview/summary, but it is also starts with information clients do not need (i.e., your name, mentioning other marketplaces, saying you are a "freelancer," etc.) Clients will see the first two sentences of your summary, so those two sentences should talk about your services and how you can help them.

It might be best to start your summary in a more simple way:

I am an SEO Specialist who can help you generate great revenue across multiple marketplaces including Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and Etsy with the primary goal to expand your business.

Akbar,

Your trouble finding clients is common among freelancers and it's not related to location. Freelancers worldwide have seen a drop in profile views, invitations, and response to their proposals.

I looked through your profile and overall, everything looks good. Here are a few, small improvements you can make:

1) For the word "frontend" in your title, use Upwork's skill category name and the industry standard name, which has a hyphen: Front-End Developer | HTML, CSS, Javascript, React, Node.js

2) I suggest starting your overview/summary with the testimonial. If you keep " **Available for rush projects** ", I recommend removing the emojis. Clients will see the first two sentences of your summary, so you want important words to appear in those two sentences--not emojis.

Everything else looks good.

Please can someone look at my profile and suggest areas that need improvement? Thank you.

Patrick,

I think you need a stronger opening. "I have a background in web development," is OK if you only want to write about web development. But technical writing, as you know, encompasses a whole lot more than that.

I also think you need much stronger writing samples. If you don't have any, assign yourself some technical writing stories and write them up. These should be edited to perfection -- especially as editing is one of your services. Post two or three of them -- three would be better.

Md Nazmul,

1) Capitalize the first letter of each word in your title; this will help it stand out: B2B Lead Generation, LinkedIn Lead Generation, Data Entry

2) Remove the first line of your overview/summary: "Thank you for checking out my profile!" Why? Because only the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. This means you have very little space to grab their attention, and you want clients to see your services and how you can help them; you do not want to waste space with a greeting.

For your second paragraph: "I would love to always learn new things and therefore be prepared to accept my buyer's challenges on a new path," I recommend not using the word "learn." Clients are not looking for freelancers who need to learn anything. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for experienced freelancers who can meet those needs. I would revise it to say something like: "I can help you grow your brand and increase demand with a proven and effective lead generation strategy."

Since lead generation is your main service, you need more lead generation samples in your portfolio. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients, and clients will expect to see other lead generation statistics, data, or other information you can provide.

Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. This is especially important when the jobs are highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork.

Mohit,

Your profile does not have enough information to convince clients to hire you. To make your profile more appealing to clients, provide more information in your overview/summary and add a portfolio. Clients come to Upwork with specific needs and they look for freelancers who can get results.

Before updating your summary and portfolio, you should change your profile photo. The picture in your photo should be a close-up image of your head and shoulders that clearly shows your face. The picture cannot be a graphic, avatar, or anything that isn't a photo of you. Read through Upwork's best practices for How to Choose A Good Profile Picture.

Add more information to your summary about how you can help clients. In addition to telling clients about your experience, give examples of the services you provide. Tell clients about your approach to providing those services and how you manage a project. Talk about your timeliness, accuracy, and ability to communicate effectively. Remember--you are competing with hundreds of thousands of data analysts, so clients several reasons to choose you.

As mentioned above, add a portfolio. Add a portfolio to show samples of previous work or to demonstrate your skills. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Hi Faraz,

Welcome to Upwork.

I think your profile looks good. Your overview/summary is short, but I think it has enough information for clients to understand how you can help them.

The only suggestion I have is to add more items to your portfolio. Your Behance portfolio is great, but many clients will not click a URL to visit a website outside of Upwork. For those clients, I recommend adding a few of your graphics to your Upwork portfolio.

Good luck!

Muhammad,

Other freelancers cannot provide you with work, but some freelancers can refer you to a job if they receive and decline an invitation.

Upwork is testing freelancer referrals with a limited amount of freelancers, but it will eventually become part of the platform for job invites.

Upwork Profile

Hello Sarah,

I looked through your profile and I think it does a great job of reflecting your skills, expertise, and value proposition. Your overview/summary is well-written and informative; your portfolio looks great; and your skills list uses several relevant skill categories.

I have only two suggestions:

1) Remove "Welcome to my Upwork profile!" as the first sentence of your summary. Why? Because only the first two sentences of your summary (approximately 215-250 characters) are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. This means you have very limited space to grab their attention, and you want clients to see their goals (your services) in that small space. You don't want to waste any space with a greeting--especially since "Welcome to my Upwork profile!" takes up 29 characters of space.

2) One of the ways Upwork matches us with jobs is by scanning our profile title, summary, and skills lists and looking for congruency. Since you use "Operations Management" and "Operations Specialist" in your title, I'm wondering if you can add an "operations" skill category to your skills list. How about Operations Research, Operations Management Software, Operations Analytics, or Business Operations? This won't "make or break" your job matches, but Upwork uses titles and skills as keywords/keyphases and it would be great if your title contained keywords from your skills list.

The other areas of your profile are great. I do not see any problems or issues that would prevent a client from hiring you.

Good luck!

celgins

Samuel,

There is redundancy in your title. I recommend shortening your title to: UX/UI Design | Web and Mobile Design

I like the information in your overview/summary, but I think you should go a bit further and add more to your value proposition. For example, in addition to telling clients about your services, tell them about your approach to providing those services. You say: "My top priorities are effective collaboration and communicationand think you should speak about that. Give clients an example of your process for working with them, when and how you communicate with them throughout a UX/UI design project, and how you might manage their project.

Also, talk about your attention to detail, your timeliness, and how you can help maintain quality standards. Remember--you are competing with thousands of UX/UI designers with the same experience and skills, so clients need several reasons to choose you.

Your portfolio, skills, and other profile areas look good.
