Hi, my name is Abdulbasit Idris Ali, I'm from Nigeria, could you please take a peek at my profile and see what needs to be fixed? I've been around for a while now but I couldn't get my first job yet.
Thank you.

Hi Abdulbasit,

Not getting your first job may not be related to your profile; rather, it could be your proposal/cover letter and their impact.

Your profile is set to Private. You must set your profile to Public so we can see it.

Hi Isaac,

Welcome to Upwork.

I reviewed your profile and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it! Your profile is 100% complete; it looks good; and your overview/summary sounds good.

Don't be too discouraged with the lack of profile views and invites; this is happening to many freelancers these days. Even the Top-Rated and Top-Rated Plus freelancers are finding it difficult to get profile views and responses to their proposals.

Just keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications/skills by writing great cover letters. Write a custom cover letter based on the client's job:

1) Acknowledge the job you are applying for

2) Highlight your qualifications

3) Explain how you will solve their problem

4) Request an Upwork Zoom call to discuss their project

Good luck!

hi there ,

I am Kirti.I am brand new to freelancing and trying to make pocket money through freelancing .can you please check my profile and suggest if everything is fine or needed to be changed? i am still unable to land a job

celgins

Hi Kirti,

Welcome to Upwork.

There are several issues with your profile that need attention. For example, your title should be focused on relevant skills/occupations. Sales and marketing is not necessarily related to report writing and article writing. If you are focusing on writing, maybe your profile title can be: Report and Article Writer | Blog Writing. Then, you can create a specialized profile for Sales and Marketing Specialist.

Also, your overview/summary needs to provide more substance about your skills/qualifications, and focus on how you will meet the client's needs.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. At a minimum, you should read through the following:

You should also click the Academy link at the top of the screen and dive into the Courses and Learning Paths. Once you learn more about the Upwork platform, things will be much clearer.

Shaneil,

Welcome to Upwork.

Very good start to your profile. Here are a few suggestions to improve it:

Overview/Summary: Your title is great, but I think your summary could use some spacing to make it easier for clients to read and your focus could be revised to include the client more. For example, I would rephrase it this way:

Are you an aggressive business owner ready to scale or a start-up with new visions? I can help you achieve this using creative marketing, innovative ideas and highly effective transformation strategies.

As a strategy consultant with extensive experience in post-merger integrations and digital transformations, I have a proven track record of helping companies navigate complex business challenges and achieve their goals. With a focus on innovative solutions and data-driven insights, I bring a unique perspective to every project I work on.

Throughout my career, I have successfully led dozens of cross-functional teams, identified key opportunities for growth, and implemented change management strategies to support sustainable transformation. From developing new business models to optimizing operations, I am committed to driving measurable results that deliver long-term value.

My clients have a benefitted with success rate for due to my provision of effective market research, building powerful, high-converting pitch decks (PowerPoint), financial modelling (Excel) and data visualisation (PowerBI).

All solutions are tailored to your needs, but here are some of the ways I can help:

---------------Business Consulting---------------

✔ Post-Merger Integrations (PMI)

✔ Pitch Decks for Investment

✔ Growth and Scale Strategies

✔ Business Model Development

✔ Target Customer Segments

✔ Vision Statement

✔ Value Proposition Statement

✔Cost and Revenue Drivers/Key Performance Indicators

-------------Business Investment Consulting---------------

Pitch Deck Ideas and Execution

➔ Pre-Investment Consulting

➔ Investment Research and Reporting

➔ Investor Success Packages

Let's talk about your business needs and how I can build a transformation strategy that works for you. I'm available to meet here on Upwork Zoom to discuss your projects.

Portfolio: You should add a portfolio with items that showcase your skills. For example, you could add snippets from an investor pitch deck, a business strategy roadmap, screenshot of a financial model, etc.

Project Catalog: You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup pre-packaged services that clients can choose to buy without you sending a proposal. Due to a higher than normal volume of project catalog requests, the review and approval process is taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

After making these updates, keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Write a custom cover letter based on the client's job: 1) acknowledge the job you are applying for; 2) highlight your qualifications; 3) explain how you will solve their problem; and finally, 4) request an Upwork Zoom call to discuss their project.

Good luck!

Hello Narek,

I looked through your profile and it looks good, but I have a few suggestions for improviing it:

Overview/Summary: You have good content in your summary, but you should revise it to focus more on the client's needs. Clients expect to read about your skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will benefit them. If I revised your summary, I would speak more to the client like this:

I am a versatile, innovative 3D Motion Designer with 5 years of experience in advertising and building photorealistic visualizations. I specialize in 3D modeling, animation, motion graphics, Post Production, compositing, and providing video and photo editing for companies looking for high-quality motion graphics.

My clients ask for 3D modeling and rendering of various products, and I take their visions and develop bold, unique 3D designs by bringing them to life! I am inventive, passionate, and always eager to provide my best ideas to your products.

--------My Services--------
★ Modeling
★ Lighting
★ Shading
★ Rendering
★ Animation
★ Compositing

---------Tools Used---------

✔ Adobe After Effects
✔ The Foundry Nuke
✔ SideFX Houdini
✔ Maxon Cinema 4D
✔ Maxon Zbrush
✔ Adobe Substance Painter
✔ Octane Render

Let’s discuss your design needs and how I can help! I'm available to meet here on an Upwork Zoom call to review your project.

Portfolio: You should add more items to your portfolio. Clients will expect to see more 3D renders and other samples from a 3D designer.

Project Catalog: You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup pre-packaged services that clients can choose to buy without you sending a proposal. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

After that, keep applying to jobs by writing great cover letters. Always create a custom cover letter based on the client's specific job requirements. Focus on the client's needs and requirements; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their needs.

Good luck!

Hi Joan,

Welcome to Upwork.

There are several things you need to work on to ensure your profile is 100% complete and ready for clients to read. One of the most important things is your overview/summary. Your summary has lots of good personal information, but you want to focus on the client's needs. Clients expect to read about your skills and qualifications and some personal information, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will benefit them. Try to talk about how your financial planning experience will help them.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. At a minimum, you should read through the following:

Hello Bilal,

Welcome to Upwork!

Very good start to your profile. The biggest issue I see is with your title.

Title: you have multiple skills/categories and they're not necessarily related. Are you a social marketer, graphic designer or virtual assistant? You may be great at all of these, but it might be confusing to a potential client.

It is best to create a focused title that describes your expertise, but doesn't branch into other areas. For your main profile, I suggest your title be: Graphic Designer. If your graphic design work focuses on social media, maybe your title could be: Graphic Designer | Social Media Content Creator.

Then, you can create a Specialized Profile that focuses on virtual assistance and one focused on social media marketing, because both are different from graphic design.

Project Catalog: You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can choose to buy without you sending a proposal. Due to higher than normal requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

After you make these minor updates, start applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Write a custom cover letter based on the client's job: 1) acknowledge the job you are applying for; 2) highlight your qualifications; 3) explain how you will solve their problem; and finally, 4) request an Upwork Zoom call to discuss their project.

Oladimeji,

Andrea is an Upwork Moderator. The moderators help freelancers, provide valuable information to the community and moderate the Forums, but they do not provide profile reviews.

I reviewed your profile and everything looks good! I think you should add more relevant skills categories to your skills list. All relevent skills categories help prospective clients can find you when searching for freelancers with your specific skills, and it helps Upwork’s matching algorithms can better match you with jobs.

The jobs in your employment history are highly relevant, so you should add short job descriptions for each one. Details about your graphic design jobs history can help clients understand your background.

After those minor changes, just keep applying to jobs by writing great cover letters. Always create a custom cover letter based on the client's specific job requirements. Focus on the client's needs and requirements; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their needs.

Good luck!

Hi Ramzan!
And welcome to the gang.
I'd suggest you shorten your introduction by 2/3. The way it is now - too long, like TOO long. You are SEO - you aim to know this.

Dear All,

Dear Clark,

Could you please check out my profile and comment on it.

What is wrong? What corrections are required?

I will be glad to hear your opinion and thank you in advance!

Hi Vladimir,

I reviewed your profile and everything looks good. I suggest one small correction for your title and a small revision of your overview/summary.

Title: There should be an "e" at the end of "premier": Premiere Pro Video Editor.

Overview/Summary: Your summary is good, but the first few lines are crucial. The first two lines are important because the client sees this when searching for freelancers and you want to make an impact to convince them to read your entire profile. With that, you don't want to waste any space saying "hello" or "welcome."

celgins_1-1680728672253.png

Instead, I would begin your summary like the Top-Rated profile listed above yours in the screenshot. For your main profile, I would remove "welcome" and combine the first two sentences into a single paragraph:

What is the best way to ensure vibrant, high-quality videos and take your business to the next level? I am a dynamic and versatile professional Video Editor specializing in producing stunning videos and animations in a wide variety of styles and formats. I work in a timely manner and make sure each project is completed with the utmost professionalism.

I have a proven track record of creating impactful videos that drive results and improve my clients' online visibility. I take my clients far beyond typical video processing by emphasizing quality in every step of the editing process to achieve an aesthetically pleasing and clear look.

You will get:

(everything after this is good)

The same thing for your 2D Animation specialized profile: remove the "Hiya!" Everything after that is good.

Your portfolio, skills categories and project catalog are great.

Just keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Write a custom cover letter based on the client's job: 1) acknowledge the job you are applying for; 2) highlight your qualifications; 3) explain how you will solve their problem; and finally, 4) request an Upwork Zoom call to discuss their project.

Dear Clark,

Zubair,

I looked over your profile and it looks good. You have everything you need to keep client's interested in reading every part of your profile.

Don't be discouraged by the lack of views and invites. Thousands and thousands of freelancers—even Top-Rated and Top-Rated Plus—are finding it difficult to get profile views and responses to their proposals. Keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications/skills by writing great cover letters.

Nhan,

Andrea is an Upwork Moderator. The moderators provide valuable information, help freelancers and moderate the Forums, but they do not provide profile reviews.

I reviewed your profile and here are a few issues I see:

Overview/Summary: Remove the first three (3) lines in your summary (see screenshot).

celgins_2-1680730360654.png

This is important because the first two lines are seen by clients when they search for freelancers with your skills. You want to make an impact with these first two lines, and you don't want to waste that space with redundant content or dividers or dashed lines.

Also, you should remove the "hello there!" from the next paragraph; correct a few grammatical errors; and completely remove any content about being a new freelancer, possible displeasure with your work, or profile reviews. I would rewite it like this:

I'm an energetic 2D Artist and Illustrator with more than 3 years of experience designing high-quality iIlustrations for businesses and organizations. I bring my clients' ideas to reality and go beyond their expectations by understanding their needs and offering solutions that not only fit, but take their products to the next level.

My clients often request unique character designs, hand-drawings, concept art and other designs. I visualize their ideas, and design and develop solutions to get be best output. I am only successful when I create memorable visual experiences that improve my client's brand.

My illustration is about:

(everything after this is good)

Skills: We are allowed up to 15 skills, so you should add more, but only if they are relevant to your art and illustration skills.

After you make these updates, start applying for jobs that match your qualifications and skills by writing great cover letters. In your cover letters, always make sure you create a custom response based on the client's job. Focus on the client's specific points in their job description; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their requirements.

Good luck!

Hello, Andrea.

I have been struggling getting new gigs and would love to have someone review my profile.

Thank you!

Hi Jackson,

The struggle to get new jobs is widespread. Many freelancers, even Top-Rated and Top-Rated Plus, are finding it difficult to win new jobs these days.

I reviewed your profile and the first thing I noticed is your overview/summary. It is probably confusing to clients because you speak about different topics and the prospective client only wants to hear about virtual assistance. Your personal background and aspirations are nice, but most clients don't care. Especially when that background and experience (i.e., fashion merchandising, medical office adminstration) are unrelated.

I suggest you revise your summary to focus on the client's needs by showing them how your virtual assistance will help them meet their needs. Clients expect to read a little about your skills and qualifications, but what they really want to know is how your skills/qualifications will benefit them. The first few lines are extremely important because the clients see this in their searches, so you want to make an impact there. For example, maybe you could rewrite it like:

Are you stuck managing every detail of your business like data entry, file maintenance, and scheduling when you should be focusing on the bigger picture?

I am a Virtual Assistant with 4 years of experience helping businesses meet their aggressive deadlines by expertly preparing and managing their data and documentation. I specialize in office administration services like data entry, bookkeeping, content management and scheduling using Microsoft Office and other tools.

I am well-organized, focused, resourceful, and have a genuine interest in helping businesses meet their office administration needs. I have been highly successful due to my reliability, professionalism, and dedication. I use a combination of research, analytics, and development to provide businesses with great administrative services.

From a former collegiate student-athlete to fashion merchandising and medical office administration, I have a varied background, which benefits my clients with the assurance that I am well-rounded, extremely versatile, and knowledgeable in an array of subjects.

----------------Why choose me?--------------

✔ Four (4) Years of Experience in Office Administration

✦ Well rounded and professional team player

All of my best work is done in collaboration. Let's talk about your needs and how I can help.  I’m available for a video call through Upwork Zoom to discuss your projects.

Portfolio: You should add a portfolio with samples or examples of your work. You can add things like snippets of calendars, planners, data entry spreadsheets, project schedules, etc.
