Hi Mansa,

Welcome to Upwork! As a newbie, I understand that finding your first job can be challenging. Here are some tips to help you get started:

1. Optimize your profile: Complete your profile with accurate and relevant information. Highlight your skills, experience, and qualifications. Add a professional profile picture and a compelling profile headline.

2. Define your niche: Identify your area of expertise or the specific services you want to offer. Focusing on a niche can help you stand out and attract clients looking for specialized skills.

3. Build a strong portfolio: Even if you don't have previous work experience, you can showcase your skills through a portfolio. Create samples of your work or take on a few small projects to demonstrate your abilities.

4. Start with smaller jobs: As a newcomer, it can be helpful to take on smaller projects or gigs to gain experience and build your reputation. These initial jobs can provide valuable feedback and help you establish a track record on the platform.

5. Craft a compelling proposal: When applying for jobs, personalize your proposals to highlight how your skills and experience match the client's needs. Show enthusiasm, attention to detail, and a clear understanding of the project requirements.

6. Network and seek recommendations: Engage with the Upwork community by participating in discussions, joining relevant groups, and seeking recommendations from satisfied clients. Positive reviews and recommendations can significantly boost your credibility.

7. Be proactive and responsive: Regularly check for job postings and respond promptly to client inquiries or interview requests. Being proactive and maintaining good communication can leave a positive impression on clients.

8. Consider competitive pricing: When starting out, it may be beneficial to offer competitive rates to attract clients and build your reputation. As you gain experience and positive feedback, you can gradually adjust your pricing.

9. Stay persistent and patient: Finding your first job may take time and perseverance. Don't get discouraged by rejections or initial setbacks. Keep improving your skills, refining your approach, and applying to relevant opportunities.

10. Seek guidance and learn from others: Utilize Upwork's resources, tutorials, and forums to learn from experienced freelancers. Seek advice, ask questions, and stay updated on industry trends and best practices.

Remember, building a successful freelancing career takes time and effort. Stay focused, deliver quality work, and maintain professionalism to establish a strong foundation for your freelancing journey.

Best of luck with finding your first job!

Hi,

It needs a lot of luck to grow a career here, besides to the knowledge.

The thing that makes me worry a bit, that in the same area of interet (Translation as an example), you will find a person making good income and busy, while at his pressure he wil not be able to deliver the same quality as if comapred to a newbie or starter (considering that he has the experince but started newly at upwork).

So instead of me working now on a project, another busy freelancer is likely sharing the load with another freelancer (outside upwork) to deliver on time.
