security, recourse if contractor unethical

We are considering using upwork for some work, but some people in our organization would like reassurance regarding recourse if a contractor we use through Upwork turns out to be problematic. We would ask them to sign ndd agreement, but what is Upwork's responsibility in a worse-case scenario (I'm worse-case scenarios like data theft, ransomware. )
Thank you

As a freelancer here, before we start any project, we are required to sign an agreement that all the information for a project is kept confidential. If by any chance we break the confidentiality clause, we would be penalized, so be rest assured that your information is safe. Just find the right freelencer you can trust.
I hope this answers your question.
