Hello,

I'm new here and need some help.A client is asking me to send them email at a given email address and they will respond with project instructions. I'm not sure if it's a scam or legit client.

Dear Maryam,

As a new freelancer, it's understandable that you're cautious about potential scams or fraudulent clients. When a client asks you to send an email to a given address and promises to respond with project instructions, it's essential to proceed with caution. Here's how you can assess the situation:

1. Research the client: Conduct a thorough online search to gather information about the client. Check their website, social media profiles, and any available reviews or feedback from other freelancers who have worked with them. Look for any red flags or signs of fraudulent behavior.

2. Verify the client's legitimacy: If the client provided a company name or contact information, verify its authenticity. Search for the company's official website and cross-reference the email address they provided with the contact information listed on their website. Legitimate clients often have a professional online presence and consistent contact details.

3. Communicate further: Send a follow-up message to the client, requesting additional information about the project, such as specific requirements or deadlines. Legitimate clients should be able to provide you with more details to clarify the scope of the project. Be cautious if the client is evasive or provides vague responses.

4. Trust your instincts: If something feels off or too good to be true, trust your instincts. Freelancing platforms often have mechanisms in place to protect freelancers from scams, but it's still crucial to be vigilant. If you have any doubts about the client's legitimacy, consider seeking advice from other experienced freelancers or contacting the platform's support team for guidance.

5. Secure payment and contract: Once you are confident in the client's legitimacy, ensure that you have a clear agreement regarding payment terms, project milestones, and deadlines. It is recommended to use a secure payment method offered by the freelancing platform or a trusted third-party service to protect yourself from potential payment issues.

Remember, it's better to be cautious and verify the legitimacy of a client before proceeding with any work. Trustworthy clients will understand your concerns and provide you with the necessary information to establish a professional working relationship.

I hope these steps help you navigate the situation effectively. Good luck with your freelancing journey!

Best regards,

Abid
