Australia: GST

Upwork collects and remits goods and services tax (GST) to the Australian government as required by law. However, we will not collect this tax if you provide us with an Australian business number (ABN) and confirm that you're registered for GST. You can enter your ABN and confirm that you're registered for GST by visiting Settings and then selecting Tax Information.

We are required to assess a 10% tax on these services if you do not enter an ABN and confirm that you're registered for GST:

  • • Connects purchases
  • • Freelancer service fees
Clients

Please note that this information is for general guidance only, and for specific tax advice, consult your country's tax authority or a tax advisor. For more information on how to apply for an ABN and register for GST, visit the Australian Taxation Office site and the Australian Business Register.

Frequently asked questions
