Why are you collecting GST?
We’re required to comply with the tax laws of the countries where we operate to continue to do business in those countries. Singapore requires that we collect GST on Upwork services and remit the tax to the government unless we have a GST ID on file for you.
Do I have to provide a GST ID to Upwork?
Yes, we are required to have a GST ID on file for you. If you do not provide a GST ID, we must charge you GST and remit the tax to the Singaporean government. You can enter your GST ID by visiting
Settings and then selecting

Do you still collect GST if I provide Upwork with a valid GST ID?
No, if you provide a valid GST ID, we do not have to collect and remit GST to the Singaporean government.
What if I’m only residing in this country temporarily?
We are still required to collect GST even if you are only residing in a country temporarily. If you move to another country, you can update your information in
Settings by selecting

. We will automatically adjust your GST to correspond with the rates in your new country of residence or stop collecting if there is no GST, or a similar tax, in your new country.
