Nauman,

It looks like, if anything, your lists are even longer than before. If so, frankly, I think you're going backward.

Secondly, your summary starts with "If you need authentic, accurate and verified data/leads. I am Nauman - Data Entry expert(Excel), a professional and dedicated Virtual Assistant.

Why ask a client if they need a virtual assistant? They already know they need one or why else would they be reading your profile? As such, your first sentence is a waste of time. You should go right into convincing people you are an expert, not asking them if they are looking for an expert.

It seems like a small thing, but there are 12 million Upwork members. If you insist on wasting time, that's your call, but all it takes is a mouse-click to reject you. Are you willing to take that chance?

You asked for help before and just seem to have ignored it. Now you're asking for help again. Seems odd.

You also say "I am Nauman." But your name is the largest thing on your profile page, so clients don't need to be told your name a second time. Again, you should start with "I am an expert ________________ who can help you ____________. Don't start with rhetorhical questions or with saying "Hi." or by giving them your name, which they already have. That's just common sense. Also, people almost never read lists. But I told you that before.

You wrote, "I work hard to deliver the best to my clients. Hire my services for better results."

Everyone says those kinds of things. Everyone thinks they work hard. Everyone strives for "better results." So those kinds of statements are not very special or convincing. It is better if you told people about your own personal story that highlights how good you are at your job. Just saying "I work hard," isn't as convincing as showing them you work very hard. You do that through your personal narrative. Tell us about yourself in a manner that reveals you work hard. That's much more convincing.

Greetings, Upwork community! I am seeking valuable recommendations to enhance my Upwork profile

https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~01058855959308e510

I kindly request and deeply appreciate your valuable feedback.

Regards

Hello Ali,

I looked at your profile and most of it looks good. I suggest you revise the beginning of your overview/summary. You start by mentioning your education, but this provides little value to clients. Clients might appreciate your software engineering degree, but it does not help them solve their problems. Clients are looking for results and if you can mention your ability to help them within the first two sentences, it might convince clients to read your entire profile.

I suggest starting your summary with a brief overview of your background (without a greeting or your name) and then tell clients how you can help them. For example:

I am a highly successful Google Certified Professional UX Designer with 7 years of design experience. I specialize in mobile app design and buidling website template/mockups, and I can develop UI/UX interfaces for your products or services, and include all aspects of branding, design, usability and function.

I will work closely with you to design wireframes and prototypes, and develop a attractive user interface that will keep your users engaged. This will help your business maintain a high-conversion landing page that keeps visitors on your site longer and lead to great experiences and more sales.

My expertise include :-

(Everything after this is fine.)

Next, I suggest updating your portfolio by adding skill categories to each item. In addition to your overall profile, you can select skills for each item in your portfolio. This will clients find you when they search for specific skills, and Upwork’s matching algorithms can better match you with relevant jobs. You can add up to 15 skills for each portfolio item.

Hello Clients,

I hope this message finds you well. I'm facing a challenge and would greatly appreciate your valuable suggestions. Over the past three days, I've been noticing an increase in profile views; however, I haven't received any job invites yet. I'm reaching out to seek guidance on identifying any areas where I might be missing out.

I'm open to suggestions and advice from experienced persons who can offer insights into improving my profile's performance. Could anyone kindly review my profile and provide suggestions for any necessary changes? Rest assured, my profile is fully completed, with all relevant information provided.

I sincerely appreciate your time and assistance. Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,
Muhammad Toqeer.

Hello Muhammad,

Getting job invites is a challenge these days. It has been difficult for hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of freelancers. Also, you are in a highly competitive niche and that makes it even harder to get invites. And, most freelancers don't receive invites without sending proposals.

I looked through your profile and the first thing I notice is the length of your overview/summary. Most clients will never read this much information. Also, your summary starts with titles/keywords:

Data Entry Expert/Specialist | Data Scraper | Web-Researcher | Data Researcher | MS-Office Expert | Excel Expert/Specialist | Lead Generation & List Building Expert | Amazon Listing Expert | Amazon Product Researcher | Adobe Photoshop Expert.

Keep in mind that the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for data entry freelancers. You want the first two lines of your summary to be impactful, and hopefully, the client is convinced to click and read your profile. I don't suggest having a list of titles/keywords as your first two sentences. But if this is what you want clients to see first, you can leave it as-is.

As for the length of your summary, I suggest making it shorter. This will require you to combine similar content or remove nonessential content.

Your skills, portfolio, certifications, and employment history look good.

Hi Raja Shahrukh,

The information you wrote in your message is the type of information to include in your profile summary. I see that much of this information is already in your profile, but your profile is not 100% complete, and clients might not have enough information to make a decision to hire you.

Make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. At a minimum, you should go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

Hello Adrija,

I don't have any suggestions that would improve your profile; everything looks good.

A lot of freelancers (hundreds of thousands) are experiencing the same issue you're having—sending plenty of proposals, but not getting views. This is due to several unknown reasons, so there isn't much we can do except continue to try. I'm really hoping the platform improves soon so that our trying bears fruit.

Keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications/skills by writing great cover letters. Hopefully, the wins will come soon!

Hi David,

Overall, I think your profile has a good approach. However, I would reconsider the beginning of the second paragraph in your main profile overview/summary: "I'm happy to announce..."

Instead, I would start the paragraph by simplying stating: "I write highly effective article and blog content, and I specialize in both long-form SEO content (blog posts, landing pages, scripts, etc.) and short-form copywriting (ads, social media, email marketing)."

Then, I would finish the paragraph by stating: "I work closely with my clients to develop their blogs, which produces better SEO and stronger customer connections. My goal is to help you communicate in a way that resonates with your audience and keeps them coming back."

Altogether:

I write highly effective articles and blog content, and I specialize in both long-form SEO content (blog posts, landing pages, scripts, etc.) and short-form copywriting (ads, social media, email marketing). I work closely with my clients to develop their blogs, which produces better SEO and stronger customer connections. My goal is to help you communicate in a way that resonates with your audience and keeps them coming back.

Also, I suggest updating your portfolio by adding skill categories to each item. In addition to your overall profile, you can select skills for each item in your portfolio. This will clients find you when they search for specific skills, and Upwork’s matching algorithms can better match you with relevant jobs. You can add up to 15 skills for each portfolio item.

Hello Nirali,

I went through your profile and the first thing I notice is your overview/summary. The tone of your summary is that of an employee seeking a job with an employer. As a freelancer, you are a business providing services to other businesses (clients).

Overview/Summary: Your summary should provide a brief overview of your background and immediately tell clients how you can help them meet their goals. Clients expect to read about your skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills/qualifications will benefit them. Meaning, you have to tell clients what types of security solutions you can provide and why they should care (i.e., how it helps them).

For example, your summary should be something like the following:

I'm an expert GRC Security Analyst providing security compliance and IT auditing for small and large businesses. I take full responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of an organization's security program, and contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of security policies, processes, and procedures.

I have advanced training in risk assessments, management controls and audit planning. I can help your organization establish a secure and controlled server, storage, network, and application environment, and help you better respond the compliance and risk needs cloud and on-premise platforms and infrastructure.

My background includes extensive internal/external audit knowledge and skills in financial, compliance and operational areas within different sectors. This diverse experience allows me to advise and inform you on a comprehensive IT Governance, Risk and Compliance strategy while maintaining existing operations.

Let's talk about your organization and its systems, and how I can help.

Portfolio: Add a portfolio to showcase sample work you have completed. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients by demonstrating your experience. Sample work for a GRC Security Analyst might be tricky, so you should add sample items (i.e., security assessment, SAP screenshots, security roadmap, etc.)

Project Catalog: You should also consider adding a project catalog. The project catalog allows you to setup a pre-packaged service that clients can buy without you sending a proposal. This might be a good opportunity to provide GRC or IT audit training services.

Due to higher than usual requests for project catalogs, reviews and approvals are taking a minimum of 10 business days. Read Get Started With Project Catalog for more information.

After you make these updates, start applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Write a custom cover letter based on the client's job:

1) Acknowledge the job you are applying for.

2) Highlight your qualifications.

3) Address specific points in the job by explaining how you can meet their needs or solve their problem.

4) Request the client reach out to discuss or request an Upwork Zoom call to go through their requirements.

Good luck!

Nirali,

When you say you are enthusiastically seeking opportunities, what you are saying is that whatever clients are out there, the idea is that they are here to help you. That's not how freelancing works.

Freelancing is independent workers forming a service-oriented company that is made up of just themselves. So what you need to do is say "I am an expert ___________________ who can solve these problems for you ___________, __________, and _____________.

And, like any other sales pitch, then add in how they will benefit from your work. "You will sleep better ..." or whatever it is you think is valid.

It's not about clients giving you opportunities, it's about you offering a service that they can use ... a service that is useful, offered at a competetive rate.

It is important to establish yourself as an expert and to show confidence. But you should also be as specific as possible about the service you are selling. "I am an expert GRC Security Analyst who can review your technology infrastructure and walk you thorough the steps to increase your security and comply with regulations ..."

Make it hands on. What exactly do you do -- a little jargon is OK, but people want to know where their money is going. Don't say "I can solve your problems," say "I audit your systems with remote technology in order to find the holes in your security systems ..."

Clearly, I have no clue what you really do ... I'm just trying to give you a template to follow. Don't be vague. Tell it like it is.

Now, having written all that, I notice Clark has already reviewed your profile. We seem to be on the same page for the most part.

Hi Monica,

Welcome to Upwork.

Your profile needs a few changes to make it more interesting for clients. I have some suggestions to improve it.

First, your overview/summary reads like a résumé. You can use résumé content if you want, but you need to revise it and make it sound like you're a business providing services to other businesses (clients); not an employee seeking a job with an employer.

Next, your summary is way too long. Most clients will not read half of the information you provided. I suggest you shorten it by focusing on the services you can provide to clients. You list a lot of accomplishments and projects you have worked on. Clients only care about these things if they know how it benefits them.

You have to tell clients what you can do and how your services will satisfy their needs. For example, instead of explaining past accomplishments in detail, tell clients how you can build similar systems/tools for them.

I'm an expert E-Commerice Developer with more than 14 years of experience in analysis, design and development of client/server, web based e-commerce applications. I can build administrator dashboards, content management systems, web portals, and other applications that help businesses manage data, documents, and projects.

I have built several applications like an employee benefits portal; coupon-based management system; Verification Router Service (VRS) application; Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS) too; automotive e-commerce products; a web-based controller for a sprinkler system; and an Inventory Optimization Toolkit (IOT).

I develop these web applications using C#.NET, ASP.NET, Web Services, Entity Framework, AngularJS, HTML/CSS, jQuery, MVC, and SQL Server. I will work closely with you to understand your needs and determine the best approach to ensure your application satisfies your needs.

I'm available to discuss your project in detail and determine how I can help you build your next app.

That's it. You really don't need more than that in your summary because clients rarely read more than 3 or 4 paragraphs.

Clients do look at portfolios, though. I suggest adding a portfolio to showcase sample work you have completed. If you have screenshots of the portals you mentioned, those will be great to show. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients by demonstrating your experience.

Hi all. I haven't had a project in two months now. I would be very grateful if anyone could tell me if my profile has weaknesses I can strengthen to help me get more work. Here's my profile: https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~0138ac0ef54191c25b. Thanks!

Erin,

Hello, fellow writer. I like your profile, but it also seems to prove to me that one of my pet peeves is valid. That pet peeve: I don't like lists.

Lists are boring and cursory.  I think they're kind of a cop out. They don't give anyone a chance to know you, which is critical. People hire people who they like, people who entertain them. Boring and cursory doesn't get the job done.

I say this because I was enjoying your write up. I could sense your enthusiasm. You worked in marketing for some high-faluttin' company and I was looking for more ... but all that getting to know you stuff vanished. You do blogs and articles. It seemed like the enthusiasm ended riight there.

Don't just tell us you do blogs, tell us about them. What were your experiences? Tell us about the articles that turned out well. A narrative has far more credibility than a list of things you have done.

OK, I'm just one opinion. Here's a good exercise: Go through Upwork writer profiles and look through profiles of writers with high earnings, great reviews, and all that. See what they do to sell themselves. Look at my profile if you like. But not just mine -- look around a bit.  That might give you some ideas.

Good luck.

Thank you for your feedback! I'll definitely take this on board and get the enthusiasm rolling right the way through. About to take a look at your profile...

Hello Kundan,

Welcome to Upwork.

You have good information in your overview/summary, but it needs to be reformatted and adjusted a bit. Here are my suggestions to improve your summary and overall profile:

Title: The words in your title seems to be misplaced. Clients might not know how sales relate to data analysis and visualization. A more appropriate title could be: Sales Data Analyst or Data Analysis and Visualization Expert or Data Analyst | Sales Data Analysis and Visualization.

Overview/Summary: You should do three things to improve your summary:

1) Remove the greeting and your name. Greetings are nice, but they waste valuable space and clients can already see your name on your profile. The first two sentences in your summary are shown to clients when they search. You don't want to use that space with a greeting or your name.

2) Revise the content to be more client-focused. You talk about your skills, your success, and your attention to detail, but you never really tell clients how you can help them. Clients are looking for results, so your summary needs to reveal what you can do and why it matters.

3) Add spacing to make it easier for clients to read. It can be difficult to keep a client's attention, and you don't want them to get lost in the lines. Adding some space will help your summary flow better as clients are reading.

If you apply all three of these suggestions, your summary might sound and look like this:

I'm a highly skilled and transformative Data Analyst who thrives on pushing boundaries and leveraging the power of data for meaningful insights and business growth. I can collaborate with your cross-functional teams on a variety of data analysis projects to extract actionable insights from complex datasets using tools like Tableau, Python, Looker Studio, Ms excel, and SQL.

With a proven track record of delivering impactful solutions, I can help you ensure consistent and effective management of your data within existing process using data analysis, visualization, and problem-solving.  My attention to detail ensures data accuracy and integrity throughout the analysis process, while my expertise in data visualization techniques empower data-informed decision-making.

In addition to my professional achievements, I have gained practical experience with data analytics. I can immerse myself in your organization and absorb information about your data and business processes and the various tools and applications that host your source data.

I'm available to discuss your needs and how I can help. Let's work together!

Portfolio: Add a portfolio to show sample work you have completed. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients by demonstrating your experience. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

I think your skills and employment history are good.

Hello Owojori,

Good start to your profile. I like most of the approach in your overview/summary, but I want to suggest a modification.

My suggestion is regarding the first sentence. I suggest removing it because the first two sentences of your summary are seen by clients when they search for freelancers. You want to make a positivie impression in the first two sentences, and I think your first sentence fails to do that. I think you should consider starting your main profile summary like you started your Lead Generation specialized profile summary. You can easily do that by removing the first line:

"🤝🤝 This is actually the right point where you can have your business worries resolved. 🤝🤝"

Everything after this is great. The summary is a bit long and most clients will not read it all, but there it is informative and contains client-focused information.

Keep applying to jobs by writing great cover letters. Always create a custom cover letter based on the client's specific job requirements. Focus on the client's needs and requirements; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their needs. Hopefully, you will win some jobs soon.

Good luck!

Hi 👋 everyone

I need your help I am new here can anyone take a look at my profile please and tell me if anything is wrong... thank you 🙏 https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~01c453dac67a09eba6

Ruth,

9 out of 10 people would say your write up is excellent. You write very well. It flows very well. It is friendly and to a point it is confident. You write often about how your work benefits others. All that is very good.

Where it falls down is your tendency to write about your personality. You say you are passionate about what you do. You say you are creative and a problem solver.

When you say these things, it subtracts from the professional nature of the write up. From a professional standpoint, you should be describing your services and not your personality. Just for example, you have great writing skills and then tell people you are an excellent communicator. Don't you think that already shows? You don't have to say that. In terms of passion ... let it show by being thorough rather than saying "I am passionate about what I do." It's much more convincing if you show us you are passionate than if you try to tell us you are passionate.

And clients appreciate it if you focus on your services. That's what they are paying for, after all.

Again, 9 out of 10 would say that is a great write up. There's tons of good stuff in it. I think you could do a little better. But it reads very well ... no denying that.

Thank you so much Anthony I am grateful I will look that up and change somethings as you said, thank you for the compliment it's a big plus to me.

Hi Edwin,

I looked at your profile and I think you have a good approach. The overviews/summaries for your main and specialized profiles provide the information clients need to understand how you can help them.

Your main profile summary and Sales Copywriting specialized profile summary are long, so you might want to reduce the spacing in your My Specialties are: list.

Everything else in your profile looks good.

Hi Tim,

There are a few things I think you should fix in your profile:

Title: Capitalize the first letter of each word in your title, add spacing between sections, and remove one of the "I" symbols. For example: Virtual Assistant | Administrative Assistant | Data Analyst

Overview/Summary: There are a few grammatical errors in your summary that need correcting. But more importantly, your summary sounds as if you are seeking a job with an employer. As a freelancer, you are seeking to provide your services to businesses (clients). Your summary should focus on how you can help clients. You focus on the client a little, but I think you can revise part of your summary to focus on the client more. Also, I suggest avoiding phrases like "entry level" since most clients are looking for freelancers with a good amount of experience.

To be more client-focused, your revised summary would sound like this:

I'm a versatile, detail-oriented Virtual Assistant with experience providing quality administrative support that helps my clients run and manage their businesses better. I can help lighten your workload and enhance your productivity by prioritizing your busisness goals and objectives, and ensuring your projects are managed with attention to detail.

I excel in usuing Microsoft Office, Google space and customer relationship management (CRM) systems. I can work with your existing systems, and help you overcome your obstacles and achieve your goals. Whether you need help with social media management, administrative tasks, or anything in between, I'm here to support you.

Communication is important so let's collaborate and talk about how I can help.

The same idea should be applied to your General Virtual Assistance specialized profile. Remove "Hi I'm Tim. Currently a statistics student and an entry level ..." Instead, start that summary with " I'm a highly skilled Virtual Assistant with over 2 years of experience providing administrative support as both an executive assistant and as owner of a small brand."

Portfolio: Add a portfolio to showcase sample work you have completed. The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients by demonstrating your experience. If you don’t have relevant examples to add to your portfolio, you can create items that demonstrate your skills.

Hello Takaz,

Welcome to Upwork.

I looked through your profile and I think everything looks really good. Your profile is in good position to continue getting attention and hopefully getting invites.

Your summary starts with telling clients what you can do for them, and this is good. While I don't agree with using a lot of emojis, I think the substance of your summary is helpful for potential clients.

Keep applying to jobs by writing great cover letters. Always create a custom cover letter based on the client's specific job requirements. Focus on the client's needs and requirements; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you will meet their needs.

Good luck!
