Hello Asad,

I think your profile is great. In fact, data entry and/or data analysis profiles rarely have the information clients need, but yours does.

Speaking of data analysis, your background, skills, and qualifications appear to be that of data analyst. I think you several tiers above data entry. Most entry-level or lower skilled data entry specialists don't have your certifications, your expertise with Excel and VBA programming, and your in-depth experience with Power BI and data visualization. Maybe your main profile title should be Expert Data Analyst?

Also, I suggest you add a short job description to each job in your employment history.

Everything else in your profile is good.

Umair,

There isn't anything freelancers can do to help you win long term projects. Most freelancers must submit proposals to receive invites and win jobs. It has been difficult for hundreds of thousands of freelancers lately; even Top-Rated and Top-Rated Plus freelancers are finding it difficult to get profile views and responses to their proposals.

Your profile is fine, so the only thing you can do is keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications/skills by writing great cover letters. Hopefully, you will get some wins soon.

Hello Hasnain,

I think your profile has a good approach. Your summary and portfolio look good.

The only suggestion I have is to review your selected skill categories in your skills list. We are allowed up to 15 skills, so you should select more, but only if they are relevant. It is important to keep your skills list updated with relevant skills categories so that Upwork can match you with relevant jobs, and so your profile will appear when clients search for your skills.

Everything else looks good.

As a newcomer to freelancing, how can I enhance my profile to attract the right clients

celgins

Hi Madeeha,

Welcome to Upwork.

The biggest improvements you can make to your profile are to your title and summary.

Title: It looks like you will provide content writing services based on psychology and mental health. If this is true, your title should contain the words you use, but other words are not needed. For example, you title would be more meaningful to clients if it is something like:

  • Mental Health Content Writer
  • Content Writer | Specializing in Psychology & Mental Health
  • Content Writer | Psychology, Mental Health & Wellness

Overview/Summary: Your summary needs a lot of work. You need to start your summary by giving your clients background information. Then, you can tell clients about the services you provide and how your services will help them. Clients are looking for results, so you have to tell them what you can do to meet their needs or solve their problem.

For example, you could start your summary like:

Do you need a highly effective and engaging informational content that focuses on mental health? I specialize in writing psychology, health, and wellness content that that resonates with your readers. I can write blogs, website content, articles, and other material covering mental health and counseling topics, diet and exercise, common health conditions, and dietary supplements and nutrition.

Services I provide:

◉ Content Creation and Writing (blogs, websites, articles)

◉ Event Planning and Coordination

◉ Mental Health Awareness

◉ Online Platform Management

◉ Community Building and Support

◉ Seminar Organization on Current Affairs

Why choose me?

✔ Effective Communication Skills

✔ Interpersonal and Analytical Skills

✔ Focused on Timeliness and Quality

✔ 100% Satisfaction Guarantee

Let’s discuss your document, blog, or website needs and how I can help.

You also need to add more relevant skills and a portfolio with sample content writing.

Since you are new to Upwork, make sure your profile is 100% complete before applying to jobs. At a minimum, you should go through the following Academy Courses and Learning Paths:

Hello Md Mehedi,

Your profile looks great; I'm not seeing any issues that would prevent clients from hiring you.

A lot of freelancers have seen lower job hires lately, but keep applying to jobs by writing great cover letters. Hopefully, you will start winning again soon.

Hello Ali,

It is difficult for many freelancers to get projects these days. In addition to stiff competition, there have been changes to the platform, clients less willing to spend, and a few other things that are affecting the hire rates.

I looked through your profile and I think it's good, overall. However, I think you need to refocus your overview/summary on clients. You provide good background, experience and skill information, but it comes first and the material of interest to clients comes much later. Clients expect to read about your background, skills and qualifications, but they really want to know how your skills and qualifications will benefit them. And, you want to do this early in your summary. In fact, you can rearrange some content in your summary and revise other content to sound more client-focused.

Two more things I noticed about your summary: 1) The first line is unnecessary and needs to be removed - "Hello and welcome to my Upwork profile!" The reason I suggest removal is because the first two sentences of your summary should begin highlight how you can help the client. Clients see the first two sentences of your summary when they search for freelancers, and you want those first two lines to be impactful, and a greeting has no impact; 2) You should add spacing between paragraphs to make your summary easier to read.

So, if you take 1 and 2, and the intial suggestion to be more client-focused, your summary might sound like this:

I am a highly skilled professional Accountant/Bookkeeper with over 12 years of experience providing exceptional accounting and bookkeeping services to businesses of all sizes and industries. I can assist you with account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, accounts payable and receivable management, payroll, tax preparation, and budgeting.

I hold an ACCA qualification and an MBA in Investment Banking from the University of Wales.  As a Quickbooks and Xero pro advisor, I can manage your bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting tasks. I am also a certified A2X accountant, which enables me to manage e-commerce accounting efficiently. In addition, I have experience working with Microsoft Dynamics GP, Wave, Zoho accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

My attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills are unparalleled, and I always strive to deliver quality work that exceeds my clients' expectations. I pride myself on my ability to communicate effectively with my clients and my commitment to delivering timely and efficient services.

With my experience and skills, I am confident in providing reliable and efficient bookkeeping and accounting services to businesses of all sizes.

If you're looking for a professional accountant/bookkeeper who can manage your financial tasks efficiently and effectively, please don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working with you!

I think everything else in your profile looks good.

After you make these minor updates, keep applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Hopefully, you will start receiving invites and win a few projects soon.

Good luck!

"Hello Upwork community,

celgins

Hello Sheikh Sarwar,

I like your profile; I think it is informative and provides good information for clients. I see no reason why clients would not invite you after reviewing your profile.

The only change I would make is to the first sentence in your main profile summary. I would remove: "Thank You For Visiting My Awesome Profile!"

The reason is because the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. You want those first two lines to have meaning and be impactful, and this is best accompished with background information and client-focused information. Everything after that sentence is fine, but you probably don't want to waste valuable space with a greeting.

Everything else looks great.

Hello Upwork Community,

I am new here and would appreciate any feedback on my profile, as well as technical advice on how to upload PDFs. I am looking for writing and editing work and wish to post writing samples, but whether I drag and drop or select the file to upload, it only posts a thumbnail, not the full PDF. Here's the link to my profile:

Hello Robin,

Welcome to Upwork.

I see a couple of things in your profile that I think could be updated to help improve it. Let's go through them by section:

Title: You should capitalize the first letter of each word in your title. This will help it stand out and look more professional in a sea of thousdands of writers and editors. However, I want to take a closer look at your title. I think your title is okay, but I'm wondering if it can be more focused.

First, the term "project manager" is ubiquitous. In fact, the skill category you chose in your skills list (we will talk about skills later) is probably more aligned to the Project Management Institute's project management program or Google's project management program. I'm concerned that you might receive irrelevant job matches since "project management" is typically associated with tech, construction, engineering, and business project management. I know there are project managers in your profession, but I believe Upwork's usage of "project management" is more aligned with the other professions I mentioned.

So, my suggestion is to focus your title a little more to help Upwork match you with relevant jobs. For example, maybe one of the following titles will work (the first title is more aligned with your existing title):

  • Project Manager, Writer, and Editor | Arts and Entertainment
  • Arts and Entertainment Project Manager
  • Writer/Editor | Arts and Entertainment

The idea is to keep your profile from appearing in searches for IT, engineering, construction, and other project managers, and to keep your best-matches from showing those types of project managers.

Overview/Summary: Your summary has very good skill and background information, but you want your summary to focus more on the potential client's needs. Clients expect to read about your background and qualifications, but they really want to know how your background/qualifications will benefit them. In other words, clients are looking for results, so you have to tell them what you can do and why it matters to them.

For example, you can make your summary more client-focused by separating the first sentence from the rest of the paragraph, and adding more information about your capabilities. Maybe something like this:

Experienced writer and cultural producer adept at research, editing, and project management with advanced subject knowledge in contemporary art, architecture, design, and media. I write and edit essays, articles, catalogues, and other educational content about art and entertainment, and I oversee projects that focus on the development and display of contemporary art.

I have spearheaded major projects for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the J. Paul Getty Foundation, and the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, among others. My most recent publications are "Light & Space" for Copenhagen Contemporary (2022), "Ann Veronica Janssens: Luminous Moments" for Collection Lambert Avignon (2023), and "Granular: Ann Veronica Janssens' Poetics of Dispersion" for Pirelli HangarBicocca Milan (2023).

I'm sure you can craft a better first paragraph, but that is the general idea. After your brief background, tell clients what you can do, and talk about how it will help them.

Portfolio: You mentioned uploading PDFs and seeing only a thumbnail. Upwork's interface does this by design. When you click the thumbnail, it opens the full PDF. I clicked your Copenhagen Contemporary Catalogue essay and I can see the full PDF. For more information, view this post and Upwork's announcement regarding this feature.

Skills: As mentioned above, you might want to reconsider the Project Management skill category. It might yield irrelevant best-match results. Also, we are allowed up to 15 skills, so you should add more, but only if they're relevant to your niche.

I think that's it for now. The rest of your profile looks good.

After you make these updates, start applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Write a custom cover letter based on the client's job: 1) acknowledge the job you are applying for; 2) highlight your qualifications; 3) explain how you will solve their problem; and finally, 4) request a quick meeting to discuss their project.

Good luck!

How does my profile look? and how do I get more profile views?

I am new to upwork and I am looking for cyber security, python, webdev and photoshop jobs. any advice?

Hi Darek,

You can add testmonial. and keep sending proposal.

Thanks

Derek,

Your profile summary does a good job of separating different skill areas, but I think clients will benefit if your skill areas are separated. Most clients looking for Python programming won't need graphic design or cybersecurity support. I think you should add one or two Specialized Profiles that focus on different services. Your main profile can be Python programming, and you can have a specialized profile for cybersecurity security and a specialized profile for Photoshop/graphic design.

When you apply to programming jobs, you will send your Python profile. When applying to cybersecurity or Photoshop jobs, you will send those specialized profiles.

Separating your skill areas will not only help clients better identify your services, it also helps Upwork match you with the most relevant jobs.

The other areas of your profile look good.

Ahmed,

You should capitalize the first letter of each word in your profile titles:

  • Brand Identity & Guideline Designer, Lyrics Video Director
  • Brand Identity & Guideline Designer
  • Lyrics Video Specialist

In your main profile summary, you should capitalize the first letter of the first word in the first sentence, and the names of programs. Also, you can revise your specialities to tell clients what you can do for them. For example:

"I'm a Graphic Designer with 8 years of experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, AI generators and Indesign to deliver creative and engaging art for many forms of media. I specialize in designing and developing brand identities and guidelines, and directing video lyrics."

Then, you should remove this: "professionally getting my work done remotely in few easy steps :" Instead, you can say something like: "How can I help you?"

In your specialized profiles, you should remove: "Hi ! it's Ahmed again," and "Hello it's Ahmed once more".

Why? Because the first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers. You want those first two lines to be impactful, and hopefully the client is convinced to click and read your profile.

The rest of your profile looks fine.

Hi Ursula,

Welcome to Upwork.

I looked through your profile and I have a few recommendations that might help improve it.

Hourly Rate: I think your rate might be a little low. Even if you don't hold any life coach certifications, your degree and experience hold some weight. Hourly rates are different worldwide, but I just looked about 25, Ireland-based freelancers who provide similar life coaching support, and they are all between $25.00/hour - $75.00/hour, which means you're offering services at the low end. I think you're more valuable than $25.00/hour.

Title: Capitalize the first letter of each word in your title. This will help your title stand out and look more professional: Life Coach | Self Care | Mental Heath | Wellbeing | Toxic Relationship

Overview/Summary: Your summary has great content, but I have three recommendations: 1) refer to your yourself in a professional manner; 2) clean up a few grammatical errors and continue speaking to potential clients; and 3) add spaces between paragraphs to make it easier for clients to read. For example:

Are you looking for more from life? A more balanced life? To enjoy life more? To become your best self? Are you suffering stress or burnout? I am an expert Life Coach who can help you improve your mental health and get more from life.

I can help with managing toxic relationships and how to mind yourself while doing so. I can also help you be more realistic about those relationships, and the bereavement that may occur when some relationships end when you're wanting healthier interactions for yourself. I can teach you how to navigate the process and support you through it.

As a professional who actively promotes self-care and wellbeing, I can also help you discover and set personal goals. Many people neglect themselves since life is hectic with so many demands, and very little personal time. We can work together to define your wellbeing, tackle social anxieties, and find or explore things you enjoy doing and what makes you feel good.

If you want to find your true self and enthusiasm for life, please know that change requires consistency, accountability, and takes time. My goal is to provide the encouragement, motivation, and tools you need to promote and develop resilience, and gain more self awareness to enhance your life. Sometimes little steps lead to great ones.

I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space. I am available for support during our time together, so if at any stage, you feel uneasy about a goal -- it's okay! Don't let it get on top of you. We will work together.

I have assisted people with similar concerns for the past 6 years, and I work with different people from diverse backgrounds who have a variety of complex issues. I also have training in trauma informed care, a  master's degree in social work, and training in mental health. My background and my genuine care for your wellbeing will help you become more self-aware and thrive.

Let's talk.

Portfolio: I think you should add a few more itesm to your portfolio. There isn't much a life coach can showcase, but if you can think of any visuals, clients always enjoy imagery.

Employment History: Add a short job description for each job in your employment history, and capitalize the first letter of each job (i.e., Support Worker)

I think these updates will help present a more streamlined profile for clients to view.

After you make these updates, start applying to jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. In your cover letters, always make sure you create a custom response based on the client's job. Focus on the client's specific points in their job description; highlight your qualifications; and tell the client how you can meet their requirements.

Good luck!

Thank you for your welcome.

Thank you for these tips and explanations.

Yes I do need to work on the visuals. That's okay in time hopefully. These are great things to work on. Also I was hoping to attract clients by offering low but thank you and seeing the value. I appreciate the feedback and recommendations. Thanks so much!

Hi

I joined Upwork around 1 week ago and would love some feedback on my profile. This is the first time I register for this kind of thing. https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~019b72a501aa024e75

Thanks in advance!

Silje Willumsen

Hi Silje,

I saw your profile. I think you should add these things to the profile:
01. Professional-looking portfolio.
02. Adding testimonials. And
03. Profile is 100% complete.

Thank you

celgins
Community Member

Hi Silje,

First, there is nothing wrong with your photo--it is perfectly fine.

Your profile summary has really good information about your translation services, and I think potential clients should be compelled to hire you. I have only two suggestions for your profile:

Portfolio: You might want to add a portfolio to showcase sample work you have completed. At a minimum, you should display a few sample translations (e.g., web content, business document, sheet music, etc.) The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients by demonstrating your experience.

Skills: Your skill categories are great, but I think you should consider adding English to Norwegian Translation and Norwegian to English Translation. We are allowed only 15 skills, so if you add these, you must remove two existing skills.

I believe a client looking for English/Norwegian translation services are more likely to search using keywords (i.e., Norwegian to English Translation), while existing skills like Office Administration and Management Skills will generate more searches from clients looking for generic office and management skills--not translation services.

Everything else in your profile looks great.

After you make these minor updates, start applying for jobs that match your qualifications by writing great cover letters. Write a custom cover letter based on the client's job:

1) Acknowledge the job you are applying for.

2) Highlight your qualifications.

3) Address specific points in the job by explaining how you can meet their needs or solve their problem.

4) Request the client reach out to discuss or request an Upwork Zoom call to go through their requirements.

Good luck!

Hi Zannatul,

I saw your profile. It looks almost professional. You can add 1-2 or more portfolios and testimonials if you want. Thanks

Hi Zannaful,

Welcome to Upwork.

Your profile looks very good. I only have a few suggestions that might improve a few areas.

Overview/Summary: You have good information in your summary, but I recommend removing the words "Greetings" and "freelancer." The greeting is nice, but it wastes valuable space. The first two sentences of your summary are shown to clients when they search for freelancers, and you don't want to waste those first few words on a greeting. And, instead of using the word "freelancer," refer to yourself in a professional manner.

Also, I recommend revising much of the "experience" content to focus on the services you can provide to clients. Clients like hearing about experience, but they would much rather hear how you can meet their needs or solve their problems.

For example:

I am a highly skilled language expert with 7+ years of mixed professional experience in multilingual environments and organizations. I can provide expert translation, proofreading, and editing of your documents and content from English to Bengali or Bengali to English.

I am a Bengali native and I have an excellent command of English and Hindi. I perform transcribing, subtitling, captioning, and voice recordings, and I can provide data/text translations and proofreading in both English and Hindi. My goal is to help your organization by expertly preparing, managing and translating your data and documentation, and creating accurate materials in your desired language and voice.

I have worked with a world's renowned non-profit organization TDH... (everything after this is great)

Skills: Your skills list is great, but you should consider adding Bengali to English Translation, English to Bengali Translation, Hindi to English Translation, and English to Hindi Translation. Since we are allowed only 15 skill categories in your lists, you will have to remove any existing skills that may not be as relevant to the services you provide.

Portfolio: I think you should add one or two more items to your portfolio. Also, be sure to add skill categories to each item (we can add 15 skill categories to portfolio items too). The portfolio is a chance to make a positive first impression on potential clients by demonstrating your experience, and I think clients might appreciate more samples from someone in your profession.

Everything else in your profile looks good!
