Could you please advise what processing fees a client should pay if a direct contract is initiated on Upwork? Thank you.

Hi Zhonglin,

Thanks for your question. Clients will need to pay a payment processing fee which is 3% of the freelancer’s fee when they use a credit card, debit card, or PayPal. For example, if a freelancer invoices for $100 and client choose to pay with a credit card or PayPal, they will pay a $3 processing fee (3% of $100).

If they use a checking account, they’ll pay a flat $0.50 USD for each payment.

Thank you for reaching out. Having a checking account is not limited to clients from the US. Even clients from other countries can have a checking account.
