I ran across this "hermeneutic" translation of the Cuban song "Guantanamera." The song repeats the first couple of lines of each verse; the translator has taken advantage of this structure to provide alternative translations of those lines. Some of these point out that a single word may be understood and translated differently; others provide both an idiomatic translation and a more literal or connotative one that more vividly renders the imagery and poetry in the original.
