Why are translation clients so confusing?

Lately, I have encountered some weird job posts. The title said it was a English to French translation job. Then the job description mentioned an English to Chinese  (or whatever other language) job. Sometimes, the search keywords would even mention a third language combination.

What's their game? Don't they understand that we can't always spend connects just to ask them to make up their mind?

Hi Luce,

Sorry to hear about that. Can you please send me a PM with a screenshot or link to this job post you are referring to?

Thank you!

There have been a few of them lately. I'll try to find one to send you the link to.

I flagged a job post looking for tranlators for long term partnership based on individual projects and received the message "We’ve reviewed your report, and have investigated and taken action as it relates to our Terms of Service" yet the job is still there. What are the actions you are taking? 50+ freelancers already replied.

I am having a hard time feeling sorry for freelancers wasting their connects but these kind of job descriptions are invitations to work outside UW.

I flag them when I see them but I do not waste time searching for them. Clients often just copy and paste without changing. I sometimes apply if I thing the job is interesting enough and I have connects to spare.

That's it. Flagging to let them know their job is incoherent. Good idea, Jennifer!

I certainly don't search for them, they just appear. You open a job offer for English to French translation and find out that you need to be a native Chinese speaker!!!!

I recently received several job recomendations to translate into Chinese and Japanes. But my recent favorites are the Talent Specialist messages:

Based on your background and skills, I thought you might be interested in this “Help setting up Crypto Mining operation“ job. The category defined by the client was "Other - Data science & Analytics"

Lat week they invited me to interview for a job with the description: "We are looking for a translator who translates about 55 pages from Spanish into German. The texts are literary. Fixed price $250 " They should have flagged it themself.

Yes, talent specialists too are rather confusing. One of them contacted me about translation into Hungarian.

Strange, I didn't get invited to the 55 pages ES-DE. I list both languages in my profile.

I guess they're too busy inviting me to apply for jobs asking for a local blogger in New Delhi.

They do have a sense of humor. Their mission in life? Make us have a good laugh....
