Hello, today, I am trying to add paypal as an additional payment method.

My full name on paypal account is Cong Dinh, which is the same on upwork account.

But upwork says:

Payment method verification in progress

Your payment method has been deactivated because the beneficiary name on your payment method does not match the name on your Upwork account.

But I noticed that the verified name on contracts and invoices is Ding Cong. Is this the reason?

If so, this should not be a big deal!

Can you help me add paypal quickly?

Hello- I've tried adding three payment methods (Paypal, bank account, and debit card) which have my correct name, but I am still receiiving the "beneficiary name is mismatched" error. I am having the same problem. I have encountered the same kind of issue. The problem of mine is, my name comes as 5 words, but I usually use two parts only as my first name and surname. So my upwork name was as 'Sunimali Attanayake' and my name in my NIC and Bank account is as Herath Attanayakelage Sunimali Virajini Attanayake. How can I solve this problem?

Hi Suni,

We checked and saw that your name change request has already been approved. It seems like you need to complete the W-8BEN Form. The W-8BEN and W-8BEN-E are U.S. tax forms for non-U.S. Persons. We and the IRS use them to determine whether you live in the U.S. and what taxes, if any, we need to collect from your earnings on Upwork. You must have this form on file before you can withdraw earnings from Upwork.

Without these forms as proof that you are a non-U.S. Person, Upwork will be required to withhold up to 30% of your future earnings on Upwork and send that withholding tax to the IRS. As long as a valid W-8BEN/W-8BEN-E form is filled out completely, we are not required to withhold U.S. income tax.

To complete the W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E, you’ll need to complete three cards in the Tax Information section of your settings.

However, I would like to ask further questions. My name on Upwork is not my real name; therefore, I want to change it to match my bank account name. Unfortunately, it is always rejected. In Ukraine, in the Paypal system, data on the name and surname are entered in Cyrillic as in passport. In the Upwork system, these data are entered using english letters. Accordingly, they do not match and my method of withdrawing money is not verified, even tho technically my name is the same.
